Hot dip galvanizing lasts even longer
The results of an extensive mapping survey of the UK and Ireland have now been published in the form of The Zinc Millennium Map (1998 - 2000).
This map is the latest in a series of colour coded maps showing background atmospheric corrosion rates of zinc for the UK and Ireland.
Whilst there is already extensive published data on zinc corrosion rates, much of it is out of date. Previous maps were produced in 1982, 1986 and 1991. The Zinc Millennium Map project was established to update existing information and include results for the Republic of Ireland for the first time.
The findings from this research provide valuable guidance for specifiers of hot dip galvanizing wanting a more accurate prediction of how long steelwork will last in most locations across the UK and Ireland.
The results can now be accessed instantly on this website. Simply input a town or place name you are interested in and a background atmospheric corrosion rate will be shown.
